This shoot with Vika happened in the vibe of “it’s joyful chaos — and we accept it!”
At some point, I asked Vika how she was feeling.
I almost always tune myself to a person’s flow: sometimes people need a bit of guidance, and sometimes they just need space — so nothing interferes with their joy.
Vika said everything felt great and added:
— This is so me.
I think this is exactly the reason why I photograph people.
I feel an incredible joy when I help another person touch this feeling inside —
the moment of recognition:
“This is me.”
For everyone, this means something different.
Different shooting vibes,
different periods of life,
different days of a woman’s cycle —
and that’s why there is no universal answer.
There is no universal definition of what this means.
There is only contact
with a very specific person.
First of all, I am a human being — and only then a photographer.
That’s why during shoots I don’t play the role of a “proper photographer.”
From this point of view, I might be a very improper one:
I get too involved,
I can’t stay detached,
I can’t look at another person as an object
that simply needs to be “properly lit.”
You can endlessly use relaxation techniques during a shoot, lean people against walls so their bodies feel less tense.
But the most important thing is not to forget to lean a person towards your own heart.
